Aldi rapid charger. Any good?

Next Thursday Aldi has a rapid battery charger on sale for £15. Has anyone tried one of these models? Can you recommend?

A couple of years ago I did have a rapid battery charger from either Lidl or Aldi [?], a different model to this, but it was useless. Charged batteries would run down very quickly. Presumably it wasn't topping them the right up.

On a related note, they are also selling D cell batteries, low discharge, 4500 mAh. £2.99 a pair. Bargain.

Yes, they seem to be reasonably able to handle and maintain nimh.

They can tell duff batteries, revive mistreated ones and charge flat ones in various modes.

I have an earlier version works well enough, doesn't cook batteries and they are fully charged. B-)

Thanks for the heads up on the batteries I could do with some more AAA's. Pity the local Lidl's are out of the way for my normal trips.

I have the earlier model, which tends to heat the batteries, so avoid using it too much. Rapid is as rapid does - cooks them. I prefer using an old, small set of plug-in chargers with fixed mA rates, giving a full charge in x hours.

I agree about their RTU batteries - so far, my Lidl AA and AAA haven't let me down.

How odd mine is fine. It's quick (flat 2.8AHr AA in just under 3 hours, wihich fits with its quoted 1A charge rate for AA). Batteries do get warm during charge but with the delta V detection don't get cooked once charged like a time based rapid charger would.

It's a Tronic KH980:

I've got one that has gone open circuit, must get around to giving it a blast with a higher voltage/current.

batteries up, then more started to do it. It still charges fine, but it's become an over-charger, so I keep an eye on it if I have to use it. I try to use it only for the older non-LSD ones - I don't really give a crap about those.
