AEG 16810 Washer Dryer, 2 inches of water in the drum problem

A few times i have noticed that after I have performed a wash and removed the clothes, a few days laster my washing machine has had about

2 inches of water in the drum. Im not sure when exactly this happens but when i open the door at the front the water smells a bit bad (im assuming its been there for a day or two, just not noticed), on one occasion i had clothes in the drum about to be washed and the water had entered the drum and again it wasnt the nicest smell in the world If I put the machine onto Drain, the water drains away bit it leaves a whiteish residue on the drum wall which washes away if i do a Rinse Any ideas whats causing this?

TIA Doug

I am not familiar with that model. If it has a filter on the pump, and you haven't cleaned it, try cleaning it and see if things improve. Failure to empty fully can be caused by a blocked filter and rubbish stopping the pump blades from turning properly. If you live in a hard water area another possibility is that the drain hose is blocked due to detergent residue and limescale. If this is the case then the drain hose needs replacing. They are very difficult to clean and have to be taken off even to try, so it is better to replace. The whiteish residue could be limescale and/or detergent residue, this is normally greyish. If limescale is accumulating behind the inner drum it can be removed with washing machine limescale remover. If the machine is emptying properly but then has water in the bottom after a day or two then a water inlet valve could be faulty.

We had this problem!! - ours was water was coming from the sink into the machine, thus how is your outlet pipe attached to the drainage system of your house? - direct attachment to the underside of the sink? - if so make sure that part of the flexible outlet pipe looped over a high point just under the worktop - see

Thanks Jon

That worked! must have been water leaking in from the sink The whitish reside would have probably been white paint as I have been decorating and cleaned the rollers in the sink. Just didnt realise that was what it was on the washing machines drum.

Thanks again
