Adjustable Spanners

Hi All

Can you still get those adjustable spanners/wrenches that resemble the letter 'F' rather than the letter 'Y' ?

Much bigger capacity and they are easier to get into some areas.

tool section of Ebay is where you need to be. I've not seen a modern version.

Cheers

Same princple as a 'Y' shaped adjustable with the wheel & worm screw, but 'F' shaped.

I think Footprint used to make them years ago.

Nearly but not quiet.

Longer & thinner in the body.

I got one within the last few years but can't for the life of me remember where. It's not got a brand name on it so no help there.

Yup. Something like this?

I haven't seen any in the shops for years. I used to have a really good one, which I broke while trying to undo a towbar nut on my car.

I often look for a replacement at car boot sales. I managed to get one, but it's smaller than the one I broke. I'm still looking for a bigger one.

Stilson wrench (sometimes known as 'pipe wrench')

is the type of spanner you are on about.

You can still get them.

Not exactly what you want , nowt like it really, but Bahco have brought out a 'Plumbers Adjustable spanner' I have just bought all my engineers one each. It is the size of an 8" wrench [that would be 8", then!!!] but opens up to about 40mm. They are on ebay occasionally.

BAHCO 9031 ADJUSTABLE WRENCH 8"

I've got three, two small ones and one larger one. One of the smaller ones is modified to tighten castellated nuts.

You make it sound like something new: I've been using one for at least 2 years (and bought a second a year or so ago). I get mine from our excellent local everything-mongers, Drews in Reading, for a bit over £20 (with trade discount)
