A good tip for chilling drinks quickly

At one point, I had a Hotpoint freezer and a Frigidaire cooker...

Who remembers these:

Brian:

"OSOKOOL cooling box" - basically a box about 18" cubed made of 30mm or so thick plaster of paris with a depression on top and a polystyrene filled door on front.

Pour a cup of water in the depression on top, keep in the shade and the contents cool.

We had one when we caravanned in the 70's. It really did work rather well. Except that the depression in the top would erode away and you had to add more plaster of paris each season (as a repair kit).

Sure, why not? If you'd grown up with it, you wouldn't even think twice about it. Potato - now there's a thing to conjure with.
