A bright idea?

I bought a cheap (14.99?) electric pump from argos... Works like a charm.

Naah. I'm human me, I've got the pictures to prove it.

I have actually used the above technique, but only with a very wide output hose to direct the exhaust away from me. I have problems with asthma, and some dusts really go for me. This should only be done with a cleaner with a resettable overheating cutout.

You are mad.

Quite right.

Have you tried getting rid of all the carpets and going for hard floors? It makes an enormous difference to the amount of airborne dust.

I'm not asthmatic, but am sensitive to some house dusts. I've found that as carpets were removed, the situation improved.

Curtains too - awful things. I've got blinds instead. A vac with a filter is a big help - most vacs just redistribute dust everywhere. Nightmare. Avoid bagless vacs - just end up exposing yourself to all the dust when you empty it. Ionisers help if you don't mind the mess. Always dust with a damp cloth, then polish if necessary.

I'm allergic - look like a lab rabbit when I start :( Hence the username...

There is usually not much problem. In this case, something had been let die or new life had formed in the bag before it was emptied, and the filter really needed washed, but I diddn't have time to wait for it to wash.

Um. Presumably you're referring to machines with axial fans, not centrifugal? I shouldn't think that just reversing the fan on an axial fan would be very efficient (not absolutely relevant to your statement, I know) What do most vacuum cleaners use these days?
