42 x 19 pipe insulation from a shed?

Hi all,

I need a short (500mm) bit of 42mm i/d x 19mm wall thickness pipe insulation (Armaflex / Climaflex / Tubolit) but can't see it for sale in the normal sheds or in small quantities for that size.

Any idea a likely walk-in supplier for that sort of thing please (I'm happy to buy a pack of 5 x 2m etc).

I think I can find some online if need be.

Cheers, T i m

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember T i m saying something like:

Any decent plumbing supplier will have it, by the single length.

True.

Not many round here but a couple I could try (one is a miserable B so I don't like going in there).

I had already found a £9.14 +£2.89 one

I'll ask your one what the postage might be for one bit.

remember to helpfully suggest it should be Royal Mail "packet" sized and only weighs "knack all" .....

;-)

I've also added that damaged bits and offcuts would be ok as it's 80mm o/d and going in an 80mm i/d tube (music instrument flight case). ;-)

Don't ask etc .. ;-)

do they make pink oboes?

, whilst /our daughter/ does play the oboe, recorders and tenor sax (and kbd / guitar / bass) they all have their own cases and she's not likely to be chucking them about (especially these days).

This is for her Xaphoon and it could end up amongst large lumps of tree (her chainsaw carvings) in the back of a truck, hence some reasonable but lightweight (crush / impact) protection.

have a spare arrow tube that is quite light and strong with a screw top and carrying strap. Being 80mm i/d it would fit perfectly with some 42 + 2x19mm insulation. A pad of the same foam in the sealed end and something removable in the top (or fixed inside the lid) should do the trick.

The actual instrument is about 330mm long by 40mm diameter at the worse case (by the ligature screws).

The idea being if she confident that it's not going to get damaged easily there may be more chance she'll have it with her more often (up in Scotland) and keep up the reed practice (oboe / sax) and play some good tunes as well. ;-)

I think they are usually gunmetal.

Good. ;-)

(apart from "Thompson"???)

I /think/ (with Dennisisis reference to 'gun metal') that we may be talking machine gun here. ;-)

I was also considering an ally snooker cue case as it would probably be quite strong and I could cut it down but then the arrow tube appeared.

It's a shame she didn't do more with her music (or hasn't as yet) as it's been noted by many that she seems to have reasonable talent.

p.s. A few years back I took her and her electric bass to a little jam session of my mates lad and his mates. Once they convicted her to step in (she's very shy) they played about 5 (Greenday I think it was) numbers on the trot and she kept up with them all. How /do/ they do that (musicians) .. /sense/ what's coming up next and synch up with it so quickly? (I used to drive for a trad jazz trombonist and he was the epitome of that sorta thing). Mates son offered her the position of bass in their band as apparently their own bass player was 'lazy'. ;-)

Summat like that. ;-)

I guess a lot of it would be familiarity and experience but it's a great thing to witness none the less. ;-)
