40oz or 50oz carpet for domestic use?

I'm trying to choose a carpet for our house and am not sure if 40 oz will be sufficient or should I pay the extra few quid and get 50oz? I only want to use one carpet throughout the house. I'm carpeting three bedrooms the landing, stairs, hallway and living room and will be using a decent cloud 9 underlay.

If you want it to last, and expect that you'll be able to live with it for a long time:

Buy the heavier weight. Use felt underlay, wool for top quality, mixed is OK though. Get the stuff treated against bugs if it's 80:20 or better. If it's going on a suspended timber floor, lay building paper on the boards, and apply caulk around the floor/skirting perimeter before laying the carpet/underlay. Take very careful account of the lay of the stuff, especially if it is patterned. Note that any rugs, etc. will be liable to "creep". Get an inset doormat of good size inside each door.
