My home has iron pipes and I am paranoid about a pipe bursting while I am
not home. The water comes in through the garage and I have a manual shut off
value in the garage. Frequently I turn the water off when I leave the house.
Does anyone make a remote control solenoid water value I could install in
the garage? That way I could have a remote in my car so when I close the
garage door with the automatic garage door opener, I could also turn my
water on and off from the car. Any Idea?
Well, they make garage opener receivers that do nothing but take a remote
signal and close a switch. These are good for converting old operators that you
can't get remotes for anymore. So, you hook up a 24vac solenoid valve to the
remote box and a 24vac thermostat transformer. You could probably program the
remote box to work on your existing remote code so you can operate the garage
and the solenoid from the same opener.
