Why won't A/C Fan turn off. Fire Hazard?

Central A/C fan won't turn off even after desired temp is reached. Have to flip circuit-breaker to stop. Will A/C unit overheat and cause fire? John C.

Have you looked at the "fan" switch on the thermostat.

I am not ac man but it would be nice to know which fan are you talking about Condenser fan which is outside or Air handler which is inside???
