Home Decorators Collection Recalls Wall Sconces Due to Electrical Shock Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: Home Decorators Collection Wall Sconces

Units: About 900

Distributor: Home Decorators Collection, of St. Louis, Mo.

Hazard: A missing back plate exposes consumers to live wires, posing a risk of electrical shock to consumers changing the light bulb.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves "Oyster Bay" model wall sconces. The Tiffany-style design includes multi-colored glass with a black outline. The following model numbers are involved in the recall. Model numbers are located on the product's packaging.

Sold at: Home Decorators Collection stores nationwide and homedecorators.com from December 2004 through January 2007 for between $70 and $80.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately contact Home Decorators for information on receiving a free replacement sconce or a full refund, including shipping. With either option, consumers will receive $50 towards the replacement fee. Consumers should not attempt electrical repairs of the recalled sconces.

Consumer Contact: For additional information, consumers can contact Home Decorators Collection at (800) 464-0164 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

I just heard that a Chinese car is being planned for sale in the US.

I hope! Unlike the "In Name Only" American car makers, Asian car makers are opening plants in the US. Maybe we can get a few more manufacturing jobs here. Just hope no "In Name Only" American Car companies buy them out, since they might just move them down to Mexico. ;)
