Don't have to turn it off if you don't let it install. Do custom install right from the start.

Can you burn an iso and load from that?
Can you connect with the W10? There should be a place in the dialog to switch activation keys that has a link to the MS website to purchase one.

Does ultra low sulfur diesel damage engines?
If it is clean install of W10. Modem? Cable modem? of land line modem? Latter needs driver.
It's all moot now since I have a registered copy of W10 now, and everything works, including the wireless wi-fi. I still have a HD with W7U so it will go into the tower with the new mobo and processor ASAP.
lol You need to change that 'tude feller. See you on the next topic.
The problem is dealt with and is no longer a problem. Thanks for your input Terry. ^^
I did that when I DL'd W10 onto a USB stick, then to a DVD. The W7 number is all I had t the time, and it wouldn't work so a call to MS resulted in a # that DID work, and now no more activation bug. ^^

OK, it's tomorrow Clare... :D
Computer problems can most easily be solved by teenage boys.
This thread has been on topic for too long. Why, Godwin must be rolling over in his grave.
Didn't get to it yet.
I have 2 W10 installations. One is an update from W8.1, and shows as activated. The other is a clean installation that shows as not activated. Both have been there since summer. There seems to be NO difference in the updates available and installed on them.
Got to it - something wrong with the win7 install - it does not see the key as valid - get 0xc004e003 error.
Reinstalling win 7 pro - see what happens this time. It's an older computer - with an AMD processor - so I'm not going to waste much time on it. If it doesn't work this time I'll "bin" it.
I've tried the slui route - and it doesn't get me anywhere. It is a fresh re-install, so no hardware changes. It doesn't even get me to the phone activation point.
Oren pretended :
I didn't. I ran W10 for several weeks without activating.
Oren used his keyboard to write :
I tried that with this Inspiron 660. I input the # from the MS tag on the case, [which was originally W8] and no joy. I tried NOT inputting the activation # and still no joy. Why can't MS just do like they did with W95, W98, WME?
