vinyl siding-attic ventilation

I have vinyl siding on my house and I'm concerned that my attic is not well ventilated. The siding does have ventilated sections with very small holes about every five sections (under eaves) but I'm not sure this is adequate.

I believe the sections are 12" x 24" and I have seen metal air vents at Home Depot that are the same size. I was thinking that I would replace the vinyl vented sections that have very small vent holes with these metal air vents from HD; maybe not all of the vented sections, but enough to get more air flow to the attic. Home Depot could match the paint of the vinyl.

Does anyone have comments about this? One problem I see is that I would need some kind of backing on the metal vents to keep insects out.

I would of course need to cut holes in the plywood eave above the vented sections. Maybe I could just staple some screen wire over the plywood holes for insect control??

Thanks for any ideas. I hesitate to cut the vinyl; the kind I have isn't produced any more.

I do have 4 wind driven turbines on my roof-live in Northern Texas.
