spiders in house

Recently we've seen a number of spiders in the house. I'd say we're killing about 1 a day. These are pretty big spiders (for our area, in New England), they're about the size of a hald dollar. They are primarily in our finished basement, but some do make it upstairs on the main floor. My questions are, what is the most likely entry point for spiders? What's the best way to kill off those that made it into the house? And finally.... What steps can I take to prevent more from coming in? If possible, I'd like to avoid calling an exterminator.

Raid bug bombs, used every couple of months will end your problem. Read directions on package & follow them. We get spiders (and other creepy crawly things) in our basement too.. I HATE spiders & have a 1 1/2 yr old I don't need biten so we bug bomb every few months.

If you have spiders there is a good chance you have other bugs you are not seeing. No food, (bugs), no spiders! Greg

Don't pick on the poor little spiders, they are great to have around. They eat other bugs that get into the house, or may already be there.

It's not abnormal for them to come into homes in the fall, they are only looking for a dark warm corner to crawl up in and wait till spring.

When the really big ones start pushing you out of chairs, THEN call the exterminators. .....Or the "Men in Black"

Uh-huh. And you'd rather expose the kid to residual pesticide every few months. Whatever.

Just out of curiosity, when's the last time anyone in your family was bitten by a spider?

The other responses here are accurate -- they are great to have around, and will rid your basement of all kinds of other pests from fleas and ticks to silverfish.

Try keeping your legs more tightly together.

Yeah, spiders are tough enough to stand the pressure, but it is the smell that gets to them.

In article , snipped-for-privacy@a.com says... :) -- Get some "Sevin Dust-10" from your local home improvement store. :) Spread after every crack/corner around your house.. Make a 5 foot :) perimeter.. Then Wet down but not runnie.. This would make an odor inside the house and probably a nice mess worse than the blue boric acid products. liquid sevin would be the use around the perimeter once again making a mess, but more so not a real effective barrier from spiders.

:) NOTE: WEAR GOGGLES, GLOVES AND A PAINT MASK :) YOU DO NOT WANT TO BREATHE THIS STUFF :) :) Get the following from "bugspray.com" :) :) :) DeltaMerthin (suspend company) :) TYPE: Micro Capsulate/Paint Consistency :) PEST: Arachnids (spiders/scropings/fleas) :) Application: Mix with water per gallon. (and tempo 20 wp) :) NOTE: Will clog up sprayer assuming you are meaning "or" tempo and not mix it with the suspend. They are both the same classification of insecticide so would work the same..the SC would be better for the spiders over the WP. Keep agitated and there is no problem with either product clogging equipment, especially if only mix up what will be used. should get 6 weeks or more effectiveness on insects/spiders. Would be a good product to use outside on foundation and out a few feet into the grass.

:) Works By: Attaching to the legs/hair once the target :) moves, the capsules break and the :) target breathes in and dies.

:) OH SHIT LEVER: Wipe with a warm water and Soap/Dawn to :) neutralize throw away cleanup utensils :) (paper towels) :) :) :) TEMPO 20% WP (Wet Powder) :) TYPE: Powder :) PEST: All, except spiders

with it being a wettable powder formulation will make it rather effective for spiders and other insects, will get around 2, 2 1/2 months effectiveness on insects/spiders :) Application: Mix with water per gallon. :) NOTE: Will clog up sprayer, clean with water :) hose :) Works By: Attaching to the legs/hair once the target :) moves. Dies by breathing poison air :) OH SHIT LEVER: Wipe with a warm water and Soap/Dawn to :) neutralize throw away cleanup utensils :) (paper towels) :)
