silicone residue removal

in the process of installing my front door the installer must have handled the door after applying clear silicone and there are a few spots on the door where the silicone is only visible when painting - what can i use to wipe over the entire door to get rid of the residue prior to painting?

Razor blade, then rub with your finger. Silicon is *very* tough to remove completely

Remove as much as you can with a paint scraper or razor blade. Then wipe the area with trichloroethylene (available in the paint dept at most home centers).

CAUTION: trichloroethylene will also remove some of the existing finish. DANGER: this stuff is chemically a first cousin to chloroform. Take the warnings on the package seriously.
