refinishing prefinished flooring

We are trying to decide between unfinished and prefinished ( 3/4 oak) flooring for our new home. We would like to use prefinished but wonder about refinishing it down the road. Any experience with this?

I've not needed it yet, but it can be done.

Pre-finished has a more durable factory applied finish to start with and it will last a few times longer than what can be done in your house.

Regular floors use a drum sander when re-finishing. The pre-finished uses a disk type sander that is less aggressive.

So, it comes down to what you like and if you can do it yourself. The pre-finished is easier to install. That said, there are many types of real wood flooring available that will knock your socks off if you have the money to buy it. I've love to have real cherry

My floor on the lower level is over concrete slab it I was limited to laminate or engineered wood. As good as it looks, real wood would have been nicer.
