Pool with safety cover - vacuuming frequency

Hello, I just bought a house with a pool, 20,000 gallon kidney shaped, and I bought a safety cover because I have young children. I have found that each week I need to vacuum, there is a visible layer of dirt on the bottom. Is this normal, I thought the cover would help keep the pool clean? I live in the San Francisco area.

Any advice on which type of automatic pool vacuum to buy, given I would like it to run under the pool cover and would hope I don't need to inspect it often. I bought a used Kreepy Krauly but it doesn't move around well.

Lastly, how frequently should my filter be backwashed.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Welcome to the world of pool ownership! I leave my vacuum going all the time the filter's running. The safety cover will interfere with most vacuums' hoses, so the go-around is to remove that cover for a portion of the pool's operation. Mind the kids. Like I said, Welcome! Pools are a lot of work.

When it reaches around 10 lbs. above the pressure noted just after backwashing.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

You're retroactively welcome. Tom

I expect that the cover is a mesh cover....BUT Ghee the Smog must be bad in Kalifornia for the bottom to be visibal;ly dirty...

I like Polaris automatic cleaners...Mine is pishing 20 years old and sitll works just fine...

Just after you backwash the pool notice the pressure ....NOW when that pressure increases by 8-10 pounds backwash the pool again...
