pool heater (heat pump) summer shut down?

I have a pool heater. its electric, is it wise to disconnect this unit during the summer ? I live in Florida and the heat pump is connected via a manifold set up that would make this easy, what about corrosion to the heat exchanger while not in use? thanks, jeff
