Paint spray gun recommendation

Pick the paint first then pick the gun. I use a paint pot gun ( automotive type) for oil based paint. Fine for when I am spraying gate frames or other metal objects. Would be a pain in the ass for large areas. Mine only holds a quart.

As you can see your compressor fails the CFM test

gun will work with your compressor. Hold 4 ounces of paint. Not my choice.

I use my airless for everything else. Pick a calm day and or warn your neighbors. Paint can float a long way and create problems. I use old sheets as covers when I paint. Keeps the mess under control for me.

I'm thinking about getting a spray gun to respray the wood on a gazebo-like structure over an outdoor Jacuzzi. Painting with a brush is really difficult, especially on the slatted roof.

I've got a 4 CFM, 80-115 psig, 4 gallon pancake compressor (Harbor Freight) and wondering what kind of gun I should get. I would like to think I could get one gun that would do that job as well as some minor auto body touchup spraying, but maybe that's too much to hope for.

TIA

A paint sprayer made for autobody work will work but more than 1/2 of the paint will end up blowing away in the process. Those cheaper sprayers put too much air into the paint. They are not very good for large structures or where there is any air movement. Maybe you could roll most of it and use one of these to touch up the angles.

If you really want to use the compressor look for a HVLP sprayer. less air is used and less paint is wasted. Both types of air sprayers need generally thin paint or stain.

Airless sprayers are most efficient and if you only plan to do a few small to medium jobs per year then the smaller wagner power painters will work fine for you though I found them to be quite loud and difficult to clean. They make several sizes. For a gazebo structure one of these would be suitable. These also work well on interior walls if you don't have too many

I got a wagner paint crew which is also an airless sprayer but it has a hose and a 2 gallon hopper. It was a pain to clean up but not difficult and painted my shed in no time and was not too loud. Lots of other companies make airless sprayers but the price gets high quickly as these are often professional in quality and designed for frequent use. If you plan to paint a whole house, this would be a good choice.

A product called the "Critter" is very low cost. it uses Mason jars as the paint receptacle.

Google for it.Lots of places sell them.

Before buying this, be sure you are certified to use a gun. The NRA offers gun safety classes all over the country. Be sure you take the class before buying a gun.
