OT: What bug is this?

Anyone know what this little bugger is? I've seen a few of them in my home lately and I don't know if I should be concerned.

Sort of looks like your basic black carpet beetle. Where do you see them?

Meanie,

Hard to say based on those pictures. Look a bit like June Beetles. Do you have those in your area? If you are concerned, catch a few and take them to your ag. ext. folks. Some one there will have a bug ID manual, probably.

Had one crawling on me while sitting on my love seat in basement and found another crawling on my kitchen counter. That's the one in the photo.

Only carpeting I have in my home are on my stairs, which are in plans to be removed.

Uncertain if they are in the area, but I would say yes since they are in my home.

I've only seen two thus far. That is the second one.

'June beetle' can refer to several species, but only the phyllophaga is black. Unless the font on the background is huge, it isn't one of those. A healthy June bug is about an inch long and stings like hell when you catch one in the forehead at 65 mph.

Good call on the ag extension though. My mother did that with a ctenocephalides canis specimen. Of course I came under some sharp questioning about exactly how we came to have dog fleas without having a dog.

Don't let the 'carpet' part fool you. They'll eat almost anything. The one in the basement is a good sign. I had some that lived in the kitchen cabinets but they didn't make it too far from the food supply. While cleaning up I found several Lipton/Knorr pasta packets with little round holes in the bottom of the foil packaging. I have a sneaking suspicions they came from adult beetle chewing their way out rather than in.
