I, too, would much prefer to live in a mansion.

In the UK, the homeless have the government on their side. A homeowner can take his dog to the park for a half-hour romp only to return home to find some complete strangers have kicked the door, entered, and changed the lock.
His only recourse is months of civil litigation to get them evicted.
That's why there are no "tent cities" or multitudes living under bridges.

What you are saying is the credo of the Republican Party. Trickle-down (or piss on you) economics.

Why is everyone blaming GE? They are following the tax code and perfectly legal. Go after the lawyers, accountants, (and their lobbyists) and congressmen that wrote and passed the tax code. Only then can we have a fair balance of paying taxes. Our present system sucks.

GE certainly isn't blameless because they had to make an overt decision to do all of this. Just because something is legal doesn't mean it is right.
But the spotlight is on them to highlight our socialism for big business capitalism for everyone else system. The only way to get people energized is to try to get them to think.

Of course it is right. They followed the rule book, just like you and I do. Have you passed up taking the deduction for charitable contributions because you don't think it is deserved? How about that home mortgage interest? Apartment dwellers don't get it so you should not take it either. That is the right thing to do.
The accountants at GE bought the corporate version of Turbo Tax, filled it in and that was that. If GE wants to do social work, good for them, but doing anything other than follow the rules is just wrong.
Let's go back to reality. No corporation in the US pays taxes. Think about that. Now do you want to change the tax laws?

Is that what they are calling Congress these days?
One would think that all these corporations might realize that someday the fact that they have a negative tax rate (get money BACK from the Treasury instead of paying in) would become a big public relations liability. That day could easily be today.
In a world where people have choices other then Exxon or GE it would seem they could, via the internet, band together easily to express their displeasure just by buying from a competitor that might actually pay taxes like the rest of us.

But before doing that GE had to purchase the appropriate politicians to insure that the appropriate fields would be available to them in turbo tax...

That is a really deep, perceptive comment. Anyone who resorts to epithets instead of arguments deserves no respect.
