OT: Amazon problem/question?

Bought a tablet charger from an Amazon UK seller which is defective. Firstly used "contact seller" option and got reply from Amazon that this seller is no longer linked to them. Then tried the "return" option and received the same stock reply as above. Am I right in thinking that Amazon are still responsible for replacement or refund and how do I go about it if they just keep sending a stock reply for anything regarding this seller?

How long ago was this purchase made? If it arrived defective, I'd say Amazon is on the hook. If it was purchased 6 months ago, not so much. There must be a way to email Amazon customer service about an issue that doesn't default to "seller no longer here". How did you pay for it? CC? You can dispute the charge. Also, some CCs now offer some kind of extended warranty protection.

All I know is that I bought a pdf file, about fixing and adjusting furnaces iirc, and the guy never sent it. I used the standard procedure that Amaz.... Oh, I think I'm thinking of Ebay... and they pressured the guy and he sent it the next day.

Thanks for the reply. It was received 25th Feb, I went into hospital same day for 5 days so couldn't try it till yesterday. The micro USB plug fitted the charger but when charging finished I pulled the plug and it detached leaving metal part of plug still in tablet socket. This charger was advertised as specific to my Archos tablet since it has a much higher VA Rating than generic 5V mobile phone type chargers.

I'm not in a position now to look for it, but I've been able to call Amazon on the phone and speak to an actual human. In a case like this that doesn't fit well with their automated system, this may be your best bet.

I'd certainly raise the issue with Amazon.

I'm also leery of buying from a 2nd seller through Amazon. I had a problem with an item and after waiting a day for the seller to get back to me I called the manufacturer to fix it under warranty. Worked OK but I was out of pocket for the postage.

Amazon is only a seller. Though many sellers accept returns as a convenience to the customer, the manufacturer it ultimately responsible to furnish a good product. Did the product come with a written warranty? Do they tell you who to send it to?

Some companies are classy enough to take care of that. I had to send back a Samsung phone and a Simplehuman soap dispenser. Both sent me a UPS return label and promptly resolved the problem.

Looking closer at it it's unbranded but with a model number LD-0520 and now listed on Amazon as currently unavailable here:

Also checked Amazon Despatch notice and it's shown as Altoe branded but this is not on the actual charger. Will check bank a/c tomorrow to see who payment actually went to, I have an Amazon a/c and normally any items are just paid for directly from bank a/c.

Searching for the model number or AltoE the only thing I could find was AmazonUK or AmazonDE.

Looks like you have to go back to Amazon and get past the form letters, hopefully you can contact a real person for a return. If you go to the HELP page there is a place to click for returns.

That's not true if it's a DOA and never works at all. In that case the seller is generally on the hook. They sold you something and it has to at least be functional.

Actual experience ordering from Amazon from a partner in China. Item was never delivered and source never responded. Amazon simply redeposited the full amount, including shipping, back into my bank account. FWIW.

It was a slightly different situation but I ordered some Photon Micro Lights. One was obviously a Chinese knockoff from the third party vendor. I emailed Amazon and they credited my account, didn't even want it back. The seller disappeared from their store.

It's odd the seller was unlinked that rapidly. I should think Amazon would have a recent record of them being rip-off artists.

Some do. In this case I could have got the same item from Cabela's who is good at this but it would have been $20 more. By the time I got through with the transaction I only saved a few dollars.

Last fall I wanted to buy a smart TV which was cheaper then Best Buy from secondary sellers at Amazon but same price at Amazon. Finally bought a slightly different TV which Best Buy locally did not have through mail order figuring if there was a problem I could easily return it to local store.

Lot of these stores are also becoming competitive with on-line businesses and if you order through their mail order you know there is a local store to deal with if there is a problem.

Amazon Help says "file an A to Z claim", I go through the procedure then " report problem", it comes back with an error because it's again forwarding it to seller who now doesn't exist on Amazon. So now I can't contact either seller or Amazon. I am getting very frustrated with this, similar has happened with them before, so although it's a small amount of money I'm going to CAB to let them file with Small Claims to make Amazon pay costs etc. as well.

Search Help for "contact". It will lead you to a form to fill out, after which you can initiate phone contact (they will call you, as I recall) and you can explain the situation. In my experience, Amazon is good about resolving problems like this.

PriceLocal: Where local stores match the Amazon price

formatting link

You sign up and get a browser add-on with the PriceLocal button. When you search Amazon and find a product you wish to purchase, click the PriceLocal button, and a request is sent to stores in your area. If anyone has it, a coupon will be generated for you. Take the coupon to the local store to purchase the product at a price matching what it was listed for on Amazon.
