My daughter is renting a lovely older home in New Jersey with three ~20 or more year old Air Conditioners in it.
They don't work, they just blow air hot air. Does it make any sense to try and get them repaired?

Assuming they belong to the home owner, why not ask him to have them repaired.
Odd that all 3 don't work. Are you sure its on "cool" and not "fan"? Is the T-stat turned up all the way?
If they are indeed broken, its not worth fixing. Today's A/C's are more efficient.
nope
sA new AC at Walmart is about $125. I doubt you can get an appliance guy to fix it for that much money. So, no, it doesn't make much sense.
Save the old Ac to put back in, when she moves.
They are the landlords units. He will pay as much to fix them as getting something new most likely, and new units are probably twice as efficent.
And if she should replace them, they will automatically become the property of the owner of the bldg unless she works out a different deal with them. So beware tha tway too.
That depends on what's wrong with them. Compressor frozen? Low on freon? Thermostat broken? Bad capacitor? Bad or loose wiring? Clogged filters or air flow?
Why would they become the owners? Portable units come out is seconds and none of the building is altered. Just keep the old ones for the owner. No different than a TV or kitchen table.

Not if she keeps the old ones and puts them back when she moves out.
