C'mon, Dave. People in the NRA are probably LESS likely to be vigilantes. Same as most people in Alcoholics Anonymous don't ever drink. OUTLAWS are vigilantes.

NRA is mostly law abiding gun owners like myself. Would I kill to protect me or mine? Yes. I also do a little martial arts. I'm a dyed in the wool Pacifist from the 60s. Grew up near UC Berkeley. Way too liberal for most groups like this (do well in women's groups and arty groups). I believe in force if it lessen violence. And other people as left leaning as I also are NRA card-carrying members.

Stop being insulting, or the good message you have will be lost!

Not yet. It's still being debated in alt.home.repair

Did you get the point of the story at all?

His failure made what I did relevant.

The failures by Nagin, Blanco, and their predecessors made what Bush, Brown, etc relevant.

Why didn't Blanco send them in earlier? The National Guard is under State control for this sort of task.

He strikes me as the type who would gladly give up his butt to an intruder, as his old lady gleefully looks on...

Bragging about being a troll?

And the lefties wonder why they get no respect.

Hang on. This is where you're supposed to say, ".. and I will defend to the death your right to disagree".

They were both originally locked up?

I know you are not a misc rural regular. Would a home repairs ng regular think for a single minute that locking something up in an abandoned building going to keep it out of the reach of a thief?

Come on, you think home repairs means rearranging the house plants?

"G Henslee" wrotet...

Don't count on it. I disagree with shooting looters. I disagree that the job of cops is force and intimidation (or that it's the job of the US). I think his statements are immoderate, just like yours. I am a very accommodating person. I would not shoot anyone with a rubber band gun. If I shoot an animal or human it would not be with a toy or with intention to cause an owwee.

That "block away" part, as well. Few people shoot that well with a hand gun.

Is this the home repairs resident troll? Would anyone in either news group think locking something up is going to keep it out of the reach of someone determined and who has plenty of time?

I've seen reports of people stealing fork lifts to open stores with. A gun safe is going to be a problem?

(Fork lifts open nearly anything, and that's if you are just being careless.)

Exactly my point.

A misc rural or home repairs regular should know HOW to circumvent such safeguards as part of repairing them and knowing which ones slow thieves the most.

And how useless they can be under the conditions existing in New Orleans.

You would, at most, need someone to remind you of the conditions existing there if you were worth paying the least attention to. For you to continue pursue your position shows you do not know what your are talking about.

Are you like in the 6th grade or something?

Insurance is an excellent example of how robbery reduces total assets in the economy. The total amount paid in is less than the total amount paid out. This should be immediately obvious to anyone who can add up how much he has paid for all types of insurance and how much the insurance companies have paid out over the years.

The discussion is on imposing law in an emergency situation in order to preserve order for the larger good and to enable restoration of civil law.

.....

I have consistently been referring to the imposition of martial law in order to preserve order and make the ability to revert to civil law possible plus to expedite rescue/recovery operations at reduced risk to those persons.

You have been throwing up red herrings and other ad hoc comments to see if you could get anything to stick...

Then that's your third point-shift in as many messages.

I notice you also didn't answer this. Imagine my surprise.

No, not guy, widespread looting and other mayhem.

Letting such behavior go will and does interfere w/ rescue & recovery because it begets yet further lawlessness and even worse behavior.

As Barney so aptly put it--"Andy, ya' just got ta' nip it! Nip it in the bud!"
