Best fix is next time replace the kitchen faucet with a Moen unit that has a pull out sprayer..... no need for a diverter that breaks. Fill the hole in sink with soap dispenser.

A diverter is a small valve that usualy allows water to go to the faucet only. When the sprayer is activated, the change in pressure causes the diverter valve to switch over and let water go to the sprayer only. More commonly the sprayer stops working first or the water comes out both together at a reduced pressure. The diverter is usually located at the base of the spigot where it swivels which is above where the sprayer hose connects to the bottom. You will need to disassemble part of the faucet to replace it.

If you cannot find a diagram online. Go to the hardware store and just look at a few on the rack. Most have some kind of diagram in or on the package.

The water on my kitchen faucet now only comes out the spray unit. The company (Moen) is sending a replacement diverter with instructions for replacement. In the meantime I am interested in finding out how the diverter works, where it is, and possibly a diagram of one. I have searched with Google but there are so many pages that mention the words that I haven't found what I'm looking for.

Can anyone refer me to a website with a description/diagram of a kitchen faucet diverter?

TIA!

I had done a search on the Moen website for "diverter" but didn't find what I needed.

I tried "product information" as you suggested using the model number and found a sketch of the diverter in the parts list. Thanks! When I replace it maybe I can figure out how it works.
