Kenmore Dryer issue...

Hi,

I have a Kenmore Dryer:

Kenmore Heavy Duty Soft Heat

110.96274100

Not sure how old it is, was here when we moved in. Dryer has stopped turning itself off. I foolishly replaced the timer without looking further into what would cause this. If I use the timed dry option, it runs down to just before shut off and just says there. Using any other drying option will just case it to run and run. At this point I am guessing it is one of the thermostats, but want to make sure which one before I waste more time and money. When I look at exhaust duct there is a Thermal fuse and what I think is the Dryer cycling thermostat. I tested the fuse for continuity and it seems fine. There is also a thermostat located on the heater element. Is my assumption to replace the Dryer cycling thermostat correct or is there another part that could cause this issue? Any way to test cycling thermostat.

Thanks for your time.

Not usually if it is happening on the "timed" cycles too.

You can see how dryer thermostats operate at the following link:

There is a resister in the wiring harness to the timer on your model. If it opened it could cause the symptom you are experiencing. Unfortunately the replacement harness with resister is not available for your model but the resister at the following link which is used on other Kenmore dryers may work.

Some Kenmore dryer models (but not yours) have an 'Even Heat' control which if one of the relays on it failed could result in similar symptoms. You can see what that unit looks like at this link:

The only other thing I know of which could result in the same symptom and *is* on your dryer is a shorted push to start switch. In that case the dryer could start up as long as the timer was on and the door closed. No pushing of the start button required. You can see the replacement switch for your model at this link:

Sears sells a nice service manual for Kenmore (Whirlpool) dryers for only $10. If you have a Sears Service & Parts Center in your area they probably have one on the shelf. (part #LIT787207) Or, you can order online.
