Home repair (and everything else) rules:

Rule 1, save the old parts.

Rule 2, don't trust any repair for a week.

Rule 3, the cheapest repair is not always the best value.

2 and 3 aren't bad.

But 1? Your garage or shed will fill up with old useless parts. You won't throw them away when you buy a new brand of equipment. When something bre aks, you'll remember you had the part in the shed. It will take you 4 time s as long to find it as it would to go get a new one. When you put it in, it won't work, because - surprise - they were broken which is why you took them out.
