Heat & Glo programmable thermostat?

Hi, I have a H & G 6000glx-ipi fireplace with the wsk300-hng wall thermostat. While this thermostat does a lot, including temp control, turn aux stuff off/on, countdown timer, etc, it can not be programmed to come on/off at time of day. Thinking of putting in a programmable thermostat in series with the 'power' or 'control' wire to the thermostat. It would essentially power off the existing therm until a certain time of day. May lose some of its settings, but perhaps i can live wth the default that it comes up in after power on. It has 3 wires: R/G/W. Has anyone tried this? Which wire could be switched? Thanks, John

Hi, R is source of control voltage, 24V AC. Ypou'll se this voltage between R and common line. W controls heat, G controls fan. You decide what to do.
