Harborfrieght.com

It turns out there is a webpage about tools at harborfrieght.com

That's not the same as harborfreight.com . I know how to spell, but I make a lot of typos. This one fooled me for a couple days, however.

Wow, that is interesting. How scummy that is! It's not really a site, it's just a search site the redirects you (and probably gets a referral fee). Someone intentionally exploited typos to find a way to make a buck while misleading people at the same time. Sad.

According to jeffc :

Typosquatters. They make their money from click throughs and people wandering about getting confused. They research the "real" site just enough to throw in some vaguely relevant buttons, but the rest of it is paid advertising for completely unrelated sites, popups and other crap.

This one is somewhat unusual in that it really does specialize in tools.

Usually it's completely unrelated. Like the anti-spam site spamhaus.org that got typosquatted with several different spelling variations advertising travel, consumers electronics and other stuff. But the buttons might lead you to believe that you were where you were supposed to be.

AOL and other high profile sites are particularly prone to this.

Some are phishing sites attempting to steal your passwords or credit card information. So be CAREFUL!

Google search does not list that phony site.

I went to it yesterday, and also a week or two ago. The first time I was fooled, and followed all the tool links, for lack of other places to look, but when I typed it in anew a few days later, I got the old site. So I wasn't fooled yesterday. In other words, it's been around for at least a week, probably more.

The phony site may well have deliberately blocked google spidering. Tho, that seems rather counterproductive.
