getting rid of refig and air cond?

What is the usual procedure in the USA now for getting rid of an old refrig and a window air cond that don't cool anymore?

In many communities like ours there are special trash pickup days set aside for large appliances. A loader puts the junk intoa truck and it is hopefully disposed of in a environmentally proper fashion. HTH

come by with a pickup truck or trailer and haul it off. (South Alabama).

It varies by localities and ranges from very strict with a large charge for removal, including collecting the coolant, to just take it to the dump and they smash it into the ground with the other stuff. Or at the very bottom end, they just dump in in a hole and eventually cover it up.

pick it up at night for scrap or you can have the coolant sucked out and a bright orange sticker slapped on it.
