My son has an older GE dishwasher, about 12 years old. Does this machine have a solenoid to activate the drain function, or does the pump motor reverse direction to pump out the water?

Hi, Listen when it is running. Solenoid will make thumping sound when draining. Ours is ~15 year old one and yes it has solenoid.
