exterminator (bug) question

ok, bought new home, approx 8 yrs old.

house is in pristine (like new) condition.

prior owner says he never had to once have an exterminator come out.

question - is this to be believed ?

i don't see any signs of bugs anywhere.

would it be a good idea to have an exterminator come out and treat the house (as a "proactive" precautionary measure) ?

or should i leave well enough alone and not worry about it ?

the house is in a new sub division & built on a poured concrete foundation with vapor barriers, etc.

is there any chance the pesticides would actually attract the very bugs we want to avoid ?

Something to think about. We bought new house last year. My wife wanted to have a pest Co. to do the routine spraying . Of coarse first visit they spray all inside and out , then every 6 weeks they come and spray the outside, lawn , plants, house any small unattended children. If any bugs get in the house they will come right out and spray for free ( inside) This all sounds good for about $60 every 6 weeks. After a couple months ants in the house, out they come no problem. Then one day were in the yard here he comes spraying away tells us how great this stuff is. Two days later sitting by the pool, ants all over us. End of that service the lawn guy is next. Now if your a gluten. for punishment call Terminix say termite, I kid you not old house the terminix guy had a two year plan to go initial cost, even pulled a loan application out of his back pocket. Go buy some bug spray do your own spraying, all these Co. want to sell you a monthly plan.( but that's there money maker)Also most the chemicals that can be used these days are pretty weak especially in CA. were they just put Termite's on the endangered species list.

In article , snipped-for-privacy@user1234.gov says... :) ok, bought new home, approx 8 yrs old. :) :) house is in pristine (like new) condition. :) :) prior owner says he never had to once :) have an exterminator come out. :) :) question - is this to be believed ? :) :) :) sure it can be believed ... different people have different tolerances... many of my neighbors and family find it hard to imagine paying for my services where as I have people who have recently moved to the area call me at home at night because they had an outdoor roach show up on the outside of a window. Most critter invasions can be addressed by the home owner, so that out of sight-out of mind makes the call to an exterminator unnecessary. One thing I would mention is that, especially if you have a sprinkler system, is the age of the home is in the range where termites first start to show up...a termite inspection would not be out of order to have done. The insecticides for the most part are short lived there isn't a real reason for preventative spraying unless doing something for fire ants(if you live in an area prone to them) or termites.
