eBay Idiots

I bought some used tires once. Had them put on an old truck that I drove maybe once a month. No use in buying new tires for a truck that I only put a few thousand miles on in the 6 years I owned it. I did want tires on it that is safe to put on the road.

I have known some people in the past that bought new cars, took them to a tire dealer and had other new tires put on them. Those tires had less than

100 miles on them.

That was a common practice way back, 50's and 60's. I remember my father bought a new '59 Chevy and had General Dual 90's put on it by the dealer.

About ten years ago, a big oak in our pasture got hit by lightning and slow= ly died. While picking up fallen branches for fireplace kindling, I found o= ne which had been seared by the lightning; it had a black burn mark spirali= ng down the side. I cut off a foot or so and put it up on eBay as a magic w= and for $5, explaining the source but claiming no magic powers for it. Two = people bid on it and I sold it for $10.50, with the buyer paying the shippi= ng.

Clever, very good idea. Might have been useful as a thunder rod?

We had a local handy man that purchased used range tops for $25 to $50 on eBay. Did not make much sense until he mentioned that the burner controls were no longer available and he could sell the control and the service for $150 X 4 where the replacement range would cost the home owner $1000+.

He had a steady referral business and was in line for the install of any new appliances the homeowners purchased.

That's exactly like car ads I found when I was looking for a car. Engine is seized, other than that car is perfect and smooth running. my mechanic tells me it's an easy fix.
