Deteierating Cement

I have about a 3ft X 3ft area of cement in my 2 car garage that seems to be turning to "powder or dust". It is an area where nothing has ever dripped on it. What is this and can I stop it? Thanks!

There are some anti-Spalding products at your local home improvement center. Even with experienced concrete specialists 10% of the pours "go bad."

If 10% of pours routinely go bad, why aren't bridges, buildings, and dams falling down all over the place? Concrete is a well known product and process, there is no reason any routine pour done correctly should fail.

Because his idea of an "experienced concrete specialist" is the guy who knows exactly how much of a hack job will maximize the cost savings to him without having excessive call-backs eat those savings.
