Dear Friend's Toilet does not flush fully

A friend of ours has a toilet in her condo that when flushed does not go down the bowl all the way. I also noticed that the tank is a plastic *almost* facsimile of the tank that belongs there.

I tried different water height settings and still the water, once it reaches the bowl section, will not go down.

Is it simply the obvious - that there is a clog that has been brewing somewhere down the line for a long time? I'd really love to help her so she and her roommates don't have to dispose of their "solid waste" in the wastebasket instead of where it belongs!!

If it is a clog, please recommend a good organic or semi-organic clog remover.

regards,

I am sure what you are talking about, but the usual remedy for a clog is a plunger.

Did you try a plunger or plumbing snake. I once had a problem with a toilet that wouldn't flush properly. When I ran the snake down the trap, it pulled up a plastic toy belonging to the resident four year old. There could be something like a hair curler, if the gals still use those things, stuck in the trap.

Hi, Was it ever worked OK? Then probably it is a clog. If it never worked OK, it maybe something else like venting problem.

Plunger first, snake second, if it is an old toilet where there is hard water, the rim holes may be clogged with mineral buildup also and not getting the whoosh of water needed to move things. That can be checked by dumping a bucket of water into the bowl to flush. If it does not, it is the trap or beyond.

Since you mention facsimile, was the tank replaced? Did the problems start then? I'd investigate that also.

A condo with only 1 bathroom???

Something misleading here. Sounds like you're trying to get in tighter with dear friend or a roommate. Were you sniffin' the seat while working on it?

There's also the plumber option that she and her roommates can split the cost with. A real friend wouldn't have you dabbling in their shit/piss residue.

Or, closet auger. I had a blockage due to kitty litter. A Ridgid brand closet auger did the trick.

Took mine out last year, laid it in the driveway and gave it a power wash job...down in the holes (BOTH SIDES) you wouldnt believe the junk that came out...lots of calcium deposits builds up if you have hard water, also remember the inside diameter of the hole isnt as large as it appears from the outside..why not get a snake from local home store and spin it down the inside hole,,this may dislodge obstructions and you will notice a difference..if you do this lay a piece of material inside as not to mar the finish of the bowl where the snake is turning

try using a bucket. if it flushes ok with a bucket its not a exit side clog. its easily solved, just ask

if a bucket doesnt work try a toliet auger.

As it's in a condo, maybe there's a clog somewhere beyond the part of the plumbing your friend is responsible for maintaining or repairing?

Tell us the reslts of a bucket of water rapidly poured in.

The siphon-jet (small hole) may be blocked by hard water build-up. Run a bend coat hanger or similar up there.

Using plunger or plumbing snake is a good idea. Posted from the Free Home Improvement Forum at

His partys leadership was unable to distance itself from a obvious falied presidency, stood by their man and now will be paying the ultimate price, loss of their plush weashington jobs
