Covering damp crawlspace w/6mil plastic: What kind of tape to use?

Greetings all,

The finished walk-out basement of the 1979 house I just bought is pretty musty, so I'm covering the attached crawlspace (about 10'W x

20'L x 4'H) with 6mil clear plastic. (It's never been covered, so I'm assuming this is a good place to start with moisture mitigation.)

Anyone have experience with this? I'm specifically looking for a recommendation on a good, sticky tape product to purchase.

Fyi, I also plan on covering up to a foot or two of the crawl foundation wall, and taping it all down pretty tightly. I'll need tape that's sticky enough to adhere to the foundation walls, and water-resistant enough to stay sticky despite moisture underneath.

Thanks!

Best, Joe Greenman Michigan

P.S. Just so you know how I got to this step.... I tried the old 'tape-a-piece-of-Visqueen-to-the-basement-floor' trick, and that showed no real moisture on either top or bottom after 3 days. So, I'm assuming the big uncovered crawlspace is the real moisture generator (it smells like it).

Also, the whole crawlspace has only one vent! I'm planning on adding new vents (one every 8 feet of wall, near the corners - anyone have a recommendation for a contractor in Washtenaw County, MI?).

I didn't think I needed to do that (tape it to the foundation). I just over-ran my plastic about 6-12 inches up the side and let it sit. In some places I used duct tape and of course that is now just dangling...
