continuos dial tone

OSmetimes, and I habvnt seen this be a problem in a long time -

Try switching the red and green wires in the outlet box.

OTOH, if this jjuststarted happening out of the blue, and you havnt touched any wiring -

I'd say abad phone.

Do all the phones in your house do this?

Not biting, Ed.

I'm sorry you wont accept my apology; it was offered with sincerity.

May I ask that you not follow me around, turning every thread into an attempt at a flame war?

Thanks.

Works for me.

Although I wish you'd accept it; as there are time I need help with appliances and I'd like to feel I could ask you for help.

But there's nothing I can do to change your mind; perhaps over time you will see I am sincere and will have a change of heart.

Until then, all the best.

I won't accept your apology because I don't think it was sincere.

If you go to a public forum you can't be accused of following anyone around but rather simply reading the posts. Anyway, you've got it. You stay off my back and I'll stay of yours.

nope... not drunk. polarity can be an issue. I used to have a modem (300 baud) that wouldn't work in one configuration. the phone wouldn't dial (just as OP says) in the other.

I ended up using a "tap the hook" a number of times to dial my access numbers (this was before modes that generated their own tones). it really sucked for 800 numbers... ;)
