I see. I didn't realize that the deliveries charge by the gallon. Since my current application does require portability I'll always need my little tanks, but it's great to know that we can indeed afford to switch our stove and fireplaces over to propane.
And there are 4lb or so of propane per gallon. Portable tanks are sold by the pound, fixed tanks are filled by the gallon.
