aluminum trims

Hi,

I got a rotten piece of wood soffit and tried to find a contractor to fix it. One contractor came and suggests that instead of fixing the rotten piece, he would cover all the trims with aluminum. He claims it will be maintenance free for years.

Is that a good or even viable idea, especially covering the rotten wood board?

I'd apprecate any help and opinions.

tell the guy that wanted to cover up the rotten wood that you wont be needing him... imagine what kind of work he does without telling the customer???? the rotten wood has got to be removed you might have a wood rot that will continue to the frame of the house and who knows where and then the house falls down and the alum, will be covering a pile of wood chips/sawdust...

You could have the wood removed and aluminum soffit installed instead.

Rotten wood = Termite food

tell Mr. cover up to give up his day job!

rotted wood attracts insects and creates more problems later on. besides ......you will not know the extent of the damage until it is removed.

replace the rotted wood with rough spruce (ledger board) then wrap with aluminum.

Hi, since it is being covered by Aluminum, I'd even use treated wood. Tony
