I use Ortho bug-b-gon once very two weeks, seems to do just fine for me.

That's for sure. A lot of people use chemicals all to frequently without regard for the effects to the environment, water quality, pets, or even themselves. Typically insecticide is only needed for a specific problem and that should not occur more than a couple times a year.
The OP didn't specify what kind of bugs he's trying to get rid of either. Many are not even harmful. The first step is identifying, or at least narrowing down the type of insect. Any of the commercial products will take care of most insects. Grubs can be more difficult and take several treatments at the correct time.
