Corn Plant Bugs - What to do?

Hello all,

I have a corn plant which has some multi-legged critters in the soil. I just discovered them last night after watering the plant -- they all headed up to the surface and are now crawling about in the soil.

The plant has two stems, which once were three. The third died about four months ago and I did my best to remove the remnants but I didn't repot it (doh?).

Here's a picture I snapped of them and a zoom:

anyone recommend what steps I should do to try and relocate the bugs? Repot the plant (can I repot it back in the same pot if I wash it with soap and water?) with some new soil?

Any advice appreciated! :)

Thanks, Dan

There are millions of those crawlers this year here in the south, so I wouldn't worry about saving a few by relocating them. Get Ortho Systemic Insect Killer Concentrate (formerly known as Isotox), or some similar product and just spray the surface of the potting soil, or test on a small place on a plant leaf and if it doesn't burn, spray the whole plant.

Tom J who'll catch it again for killing pest!

They are full grown, about an inch or less, that is if they are like the ones crawling all over everything around where I live. The birds are having a feast though!! Most are raising two setting this year, and the blue birds are on the nest for the third time.

Hello Tom & All,

Thanks for your advice! I'll give that spray a shot, thanks! Should I worry about repotting the plant as well? (Are they feeding off the dead roots from the old plant stalk?)

Thanks!

Cheers, Dan

Not unless the plant needs repotting anyway. BTW, the crawlers will all be gone in another week or two until next year anyway, unless it keep being wetter than usual.
