So??? You won't be there long...Make sure you keep your classifieds from week to week....... And BTW, Lowes also throws away tons of plants...It depends on what store......Not all HD's spray their plants orange when thrown away, and for you to be "outcast" to cashier-dom, I'd have done the same thing at the box store I work at....I bet you whine a lot at work too....What boss would keep you around? I'd send you too, but long before now...An outside garden doesn't have time for whiners...Get it in, sell what you can and mark-down what aint pretty...Sad plants do not sell...Stop whining and get back to work, or let someone else have your job....

Yes, Spike is a hypocrite. Spike chose for years to avoid a carnivorous plant exchange because of wildcollecting. When told someone was wildcollecting sundews and trading them, as well as orchids, he ignored it. Yet, he continued to claim that a carnivorous plant trading group would contribute to wildcollecting. Now GW has a carnivorous plant trading post. I'm not saying that's bad, just that if he was so against wildcollecting them, why not do something about it? (the plants were actually listed as wildcollected on this members page).

He has the name of one plant supplier blocked out, because they have competing forums that are larger. At one time, I believe they were a gardenweb sponsor.

Crazy hypocrite bastard.

Shut the f*ck up. I appreciate the info on where some of the plants are coming from. I had not known it was all miracle-grown bullshit.

Love you're attitude. I'm NOT whinning. I'm at this place because of my love for plants and people. Yes, Lowes throws away tons of plants. And it DOES depend on each individual store. . I've not been "outcast" in my moving to cashier you silly gardener. It just bothered me that I was removed from the floor or OL& G and put somewhere that I couldn't benefit the customers more.

You lose that bet KC. I don't whine at all. On occaison I do kvetch, but that's just normal.....I hate when people don't engage their brains on things....... I smile a LOT, I'm friendly, and people are actually glad to see my smiling face when I enter the store and when customers approach me, half of them give me a hug. So sorry for your obvious misunderstanding of someone such as myself. I am a very nice and unique person. Ask my friends here on the newsgroup. there are even about 7 of them who have visited me here where I live and can tell you the same.

What boss would keep

The ones I work for......I'm an asset to the store....

I'd send you too, but long before now...

Good thing I don't work for someone as compassionate or astute as yourself. Someone with your obvious lack of human tolerance must be needed in cleaning kennels. I bet the people you work with just LOVE you!!

An outside garden

You're right. OL& G doesn't have time for whiners. I can't mark down plants, only the manager and plant specialist can do that, and yes, sad plants don't sell. Go pick on someone who gives a damn. And no one can replace me in what I do. I am one in a few.

madgardener highly amused by this person's demeanor and attitudes (sheesh some people's kids!!)

well, no. This is East Tennessee. I make much more at Lowe's than at other places. Lowes pays me around $7.64 an hour. Minimum wages here are just what they are.......$5.25. If I was lucky, a nursery would pay me $6 an hour despite my massive amount of knowledge, experience and dedication and sales abilities. Knoxville is 48 miles away where there are a few more nurseries but at the rising cost of gas, it's not an option. I can't solve the problem, it's higher up and decided. I'm not wasting energy trying to find who's to blame. I KNOW who's to blame and it does me no good honey. As for that wonderful person who tried to rip into me in the previous post, once again that shows me what I get for trying to alert people of things that seem important to me. I'll just post about the gardens and what not here in the future. wears me out and reminds me why I don't visit here like I did. There are a lot of intolerant people around lately for someone as caring as myself. You're fine by me, I'm just over some of this attitude towards my compassions.

hope spring is cranking up where you are. madgardener

I can vouch that he's missing more then a few rings from his binder. Its a great place for plants talk, but it don't take much to get on his bad side. Power corrupts and it affects some people more then others.

Things do change. The first year that a Lowes was around here, I was well satisfied with their plants. The next year I went back in the spring, planning to do some early plantings from their stock and I was shocked at the state of everything there. Plants laying on top of each other, broken branches, dying, desiccated, etc. -- I bought no plants from them. There was another Lowe's that opened a bit further away, and their stock appeared to good so I did business with them. I do use locals as well, but they are pricier.

This year I went back to the original Lowes and they appear to have come back around to taking care of their plants. I saw a decent selection of trees and shrubs at a good price. I'm still going to look around in different stores but I'll probably be picking up some of their stock.

On a related note, I had been disappointed at the decay and lack of diversity of the Franks indoor plant sections lately. I was trying to find some smaller stores that may carry indoor plants, but there is really not a lot around here. Lowe's seemed to get a large selection in recently, and the plants appear to be adequately maintained. By adequate I mean that they should be OK once I get them home. The plant labels are not at all accurate. Still, they do seem to be the prime indoor plant store in the area, which may not say much about the are or my ability to find stores. It seems strange to me that indoor plants don't really seem to get a lot of play.

Get a life. You don't get paid enough to think, especially about other people's mistakes. Learn to enjoy your colleagues and customers. Don't fret what you can't control. It will drive you even more insane.

And you are so right, Ingrid. But,maybe it's me, but I am getting weary of people who are so opinionated and intolerant of someone like myself who just likes to alert people about situations I am involved with. Working at Lowes gives me an inside view. I try to be totally objective about these things. I don't repeat gossip, and I also realize both sides of the situation. Rather than let it upset me or drive me away, the responses from some people just reminded me of what you put so short and sweet. I know I can't make people feel anything. But if I reached a few with my observations, maybe I can make a small dent. My attitudes about things of this nature (along with others, like Monsanto, Monrovia, etc) are just that. My attitudes. I don't expect the world to be like me or think or feel like I do. There are enough compassionate people out there that gives me a small speck of hope that we can make a difference and set some things right.

I've always said I can't change the world, but I can take care of my little corner of it where I live. I guess I'm naive when I think that most gardeners care and are compassionate. I keep forgetting that gardeners are still people. Diversified in their manners, habits, attitudes and beliefs just as the people's of this little blue marble are.

I won't let it flatten me. Today the skies have partially cleared out. The sky is bright scrubbed powder blue. The sun is out warming the chilled earth here, where yesterday it was biting cold and damp and miserable. Even the birds were not singing with as much passion yesterday. I did get chirps and weeps of gratitude from the hordes of yellow, rose and other finches that have swarmed Fairy Holler and depleted the socks of thistle seed, as I filled the six tubes up with fresh seed. And I was blessed by a titmouse as he lit on me while I hung the extra suet cage in the young pawlonia tree so they'd all have some warmth giving food to tide them over this cold snap we had. Redbud winter, almost Dogwood winter were it not for the fact that the dogwoods are just now unfolding their bracts.

Tomorrow I will be working until the mid afternoon, but want to write a post and share early spring with you. Thanks for the kind and uplifting words, Ingrid.

madgardener. Up on the ridge, back in Fairy Holler, where thru the eastern window in the nook, I can barely see the blue sky for all the black cherry blossoms. Overlooking English Mountain (I bet today I can actually SEE it instead of the dark, low clouds and mysts that were these yesterday) in Eastern Tennessee, zone 7, Sunset zone 36

MG, just to let you know, here's one of your NG readers who appreciated the heads-up on the happenings at Lowes. Thanks for all your written ramblings about Fairy Holler. I just hope that one day, the fairies work some of that same magic around my place. I'm trying to encourage them but I've got a lot of space that needs lots of amending before the fairies can really work their magic.
