Emerging pine cones

Wonder if someone can answer a couple questions regarding this photo:

type of pine tree? Are these the male cones?

those are pollen cones, yes. soon everything around will be covered in yellow dust. lee

the location is northern Alabama, just south of the Tennessee line. Again, the question was, what type of pine tree?
