Do roots grow when a plant is flowering?

With respect to indoor potted plants, roots of course grow when a plant is in its vegetative stage. But when it flowers do roots grow at all? Is it worthwhile to transplant to a larger pot during flowering?

Thanks for your help.

Why should the roots stop growing?

You should not transplant when the plant is in bud or flowering because the possible shock and damage to the root system could cause the buds or flowers to drop.

Then again it would all depend on exactly which plants it is you allude.

You obviously wouldn't have the same problem with ferns.
