digitalis disaster

three years ago i bought digitalis saltwood summer. It was planted i

my raised border in a general peat based compost. for the first year kept it well watered and last year it flowered beautifully, but thi year there was hardly any leaves and i had 6 flower stalks and the werent up to much. Now it has died completely, with no signs of an leaves at all. It got the sun all day, but the weather this year i the highlands hasnt been great and im wondering if the cold wet summe finished it off and should i try and get another one

Most digitalis are biennials or short lived perennials. Save the seed and start more this fall for bloom for next year.

IIRC, digitalis prefers part-sun to part shade. perhaps it was getting too much sun?

holly expounded:

The trick is to let the seeds fall from the mother plant. You'll have plenty of them next year if you do :o)

Indeed, wild digitalis self-seeds year after year. There are road banks full of it around here.
