The message from "g.s" contains these words:

It's probably an old and very crowded clump of corms. In autumn, dig the clump up with a fork and gently pull them apart with your hands. Throw out the tiny corms, and any old dead ones; save the biggest fattest firmest ones. Replant them in some good soil, placing them about

4 " apart.
