would digging out the cellar floors cause problems with the foundations of the property ?????

Digging the cellar floors lower , i have a basement where the ceiling height is not quite suitable due to its ceiling heights for the rooms to be changed into extra rooms for living with the correct planning application etc i presume .... any way my main question is , would digging out the cellar floors cause problems with the foundations of the property ??? of course i would take suitable professional advice etc , but is it a fairly normal pratice to dig out a cellars floor for the purpose to change the rooms into suitable living space.....

Depends how much the thrust of the floor is keeping the walls out.

One of the classic UK DIY disasters was caused by this exact action and the resulting prosecution of the bod concerned.

It might just be a bit of dirt but it can be doing a very good job of buttressing the foundations.

Definitely not a DIY group question. You must get a competent opinion on it.
