Coloured stone cleaner

We have a small area or coloured granite chippings which were originally blue, but over the years have got dirty.

What I want to do is collect them up and give them a clean in a bucket or something similar.

Any idea's what to clean them with ?

New one on me...I've come across white, red, pink, black, grey - but not a blue granite.. Sure they aren't glass, limestone, marble, Purbeck?

I only ask because, whereas granite will take almost anything you can slosh on it - some other rocks disappear quite quickly in anything highly acidic..

The safest bet is to bounce them around with a power washer. That should clean them up in a few seconds..

I am sure they are not glass or limestone, they have been down a long time. They were bought in a 40kg bag and I must admit I am not sure what they are.

A pressure washer an a bucket, put the chippings in the bucket and pressure wash them.

Apart from patio cleaner solution you could try washing a small sample in a dilute bleach solution and see if that works. The dirt may well include moss/other growth, in which case the bleach will kill it.

======================= Leave them to soak in a mix of water and biological washing powder.

If you have access to a small cement mixer (a friendly neighbour perhaps? ) a few minutes turning in there will do the job.

Realistically it might be cheaper to buy new chippings rather than cleaning.
