Roof-to-wall flashing finish

Hello,

Where an asphalt shingle roof meets a sidewall in a level line, it is standard to use a length of flashing with an obtuse V profile to cover the joint. The roof leg goes on top of the last row of shingles and extends out 6", say. Is there any way to attach a row of cut-down shingles on top of this flashing without penetrating the flashing?

Cheers, Wayne
