Is SanaGloss worth $50

Hi

Am looking at getting a Toto UltraMax toilet

Its priced at $300 and the Sana Gloss version is $349

Is it worth the additional $49 or is it just hype?

Ummm, no, they don't. I've installed a few and encountered many - none of the Totos had objectionable noise. Terry Love's site specifically mentions that the Toto toilets are quiet.

What are you talking about? Toilets flush for a few seconds. Little kids can sleep through a hurricane. It's also common to place toilets in these little tiled rooms called "bathrooms". They have doors that close on the bathrooms, and the doors are usually closed when someone is doing their business. It is simple courtesy to flush when someone is done with their business. This is usually done with the door still closed. If someone adheres to the "If it's yellow, let it mellow" doctrine, then some flushes will be eliminated (unintentional pun), and there will be no noise.

Read any or the reviews on Toto toilets _anywhere_. People love the things. Amazon doesn't have a single review that's at all negative. Check this out:

"The UltraMax consistently receives high ratings, with perfect and near-perfect scores given for performance, ease of installation and overall satisfaction.

With its three-second flush, the TOTO UltraMax toilet thoroughly cleans the bowl without leaving behind any remnants. This easy-to- assemble toilet with its G-Max flush is the most powerful toilet around. Engineers, consumers and plumbers alike repeatedly give the TOTO UltraMax high marks for its "deceptively powerful flush" and "clog-free performance." The soft-close seat also receives kudos for eliminating the loud clanking associated with a dropped toilet seat. "

I think you've got the Toto mixed up with another toilet. The Toto's aren't pressure-assisted - those are the noisy ones. You also forgot to mention the soft-close seat - that eliminates the loudest noise.

Agreed. My Toto is so quiet I can't tell if it flushed or not. Fortunately, the thing is perfect and always flushes absolutely everything. I've never needed a second flush for anything. When we add an addition to our home next year both new bathrooms will have Toto toilets.

Not to interrupt your love affair with Toto, but it has one defect: The bowl doesn't fill sufficiently with water thus you tend to get skid marks. Probably the only way to avoid these with any toilet is to buy a good old-fashioned 5 gallon-er.

Maybe yours doesn't, but mine does. My old 5 gallon-er was never as clean as my Toto is.

Agreed. I have an Ultramax and it's very quiet. I didn't get the Sanagloss treatment. The bowl stays very clean.

Ditto. Even cleaner than the old 5 gallon, and also without the sanagloss. Weird.
