Nice find. Kind of odd that somewhere along the line they didn't stick a roof on the thing to keep it from deteriorating further.

Yes. Perhaps it's in part a question of funding, and that these kinds of ruins in the area are a dime-a-dozen.
With the wall extended to the height of the chimney; a roof with lots of skylights or all-glass and maybe a glass conservatory entrance for the platform, it might make a great little "Thoreau Cabin".
